ABOUT ME

Scroll Down
I'm Timm Engelhard, a 19 year old who's deeply passionate about photography and all things tech related. Photography is my creative outlet, where I'm ceaselessly in pursuit of that elusive perfect shot. On the tech front, I'm an enthusiast, continuously immersing myself in the latest technologies and innovations.

Born 2005 I’ve lived the majority of my life in Zurich, Switzerland. However, a few years back me and my family decided to relocate to Milan, Italy. Excited to be living in a lively metropolitan city, I started to explore Milan with my camera whenever I could, gradually expanding my knowledge of photography and refining my skills.

Ever since I learned how to swim as a child, I've been captivated by the underwater world. After my first ever experience with scuba diving, I got downright addicted to the feeling of being weightless.

In 2015, I started taking scuba diving lessons to get the PADI Open Water certificate, diving has been a part of my life ever since. Wanting to push to greater depths, I pursued further PADI scuba certifications over the years. Today, scuba diving has become a crucial part of who I am and it has taught me many valuable lessons over the years.

The Gear I Use

Contrary to the opinion of many others in the industry, I'm a firm believer that the equipment you employ significantly influences the images you produce. Nevertheless, it's just one element among several that collectively shape the final result of your photographs. It's entirely conceivable to craft remarkable works with minimal gear, but compensating for it necessitates heightened creativity in your choice of angles, framing, and subjects.

When I first started getting into the hobby and buying my own photography gear, I felt like there was a very steep learning curve, but since then, this has completely changed. With an abundance of excellent free online resources available seemingly everywhere, it's easier than ever to build a comprehensive understanding of not only photography gear but also the hobby as a whole.

A

GoPro Hero 3 was what it all started with. At the time, the Hero 3 was the latest and greatest from GoPro. I was thrilled because it marked my very first camera, and I couldn't wait to carry it on my diving expeditions to capture my adventures. However, my initial pictures left me somewhat disappointed. This disappointment ignited my pursuit of mastering the fundamental principles of photography, such as shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. As a result, I eventually captured images that filled me with a sense of pride.

My Favorite Gear
  • Canon EOS 850D
  • Canon EF-S 18-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS USM
  • Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM
  • GoPro Hero 7 Black
  • Aputure MC

I've always been a loyal Canon shooter and can't say I've ever encountered any significant issues. Not too long ago, I decided to upgrade to the Canon EOS 850D mainly due to the subpar performance of my previous camera in low light conditions. Every now and then, I also rely on a GoPro Hero 7 Black for action or underwater shots. Another recent addition to my gear is the Aputure MC, a portable light that excels at delivering precise and vibrant colors. This gadget proved to be a game changer, especially when tackling low light scenarios or infusing a creative burst of color.

As for lenses, my current favorite is the Canon EF-S 18-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS USM. This option provides me with the versatility I need due to its extensive focal length range, eliminating the need to lug around additional lenses. Additionally, I sometimes include the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM in my kit for portrait shots and low light photography.

I am grateful for the opportunity to travel, gaining insights into diverse global cultures and learning more about photography with each trip.

My Creative Process

At times, achieving specific shots demands meticulous planning, while in other instances, I find myself capturing remarkable photographs purely by coincidence, being in the right place at the right time. My creative method isn't a rigid set of rules that I religiously stick to. Rrather, it encompasses general steps I navigate through during my photographic pursuits.

01. Conceptualize

I kickstart my creative process by brainstorming ideas and picking a location and scene. I craft a vision for the photograph, considering the elements that will bring it to life. This step involves assessing the mood, natural elements, and environmental factors that will contribute to the visual story I aim to tell.

02. Capture

With a well defined concept and scene in mind, I'm ready to pick up my camera and bring my vision to life. This step involves setting up the composition, choosing the right camera settings, and capturing the image that aligns with the initial concept. The chosen scene becomes the canvas for my creative expression.

03. Edit

After I have captured the image, I move into the post processing phase. Here, I use editing tools to refine the image, enhancing its color, contrast, and texture. This step allows me to make the final adjustments that bring out the full potential of the photograph, ensuring it reflects my artistic style.

I'm constantly expanding my knowledge and honing my photography skills. Throughout this journey, I've had the privilege of crossing paths with incredible individuals who share remarkable stories from whom I've gained priceless insights and expertise.
